Start planning your holiday celebration menus with our November adventure into famous Ohio City and downtown Cleveland food venues.

They say never shop for food while hungry. So, we’ll meet at 8:30 a.m. for first-available seating at the West Side Market Café located in the famous Ohio City landmark. Use the parking lot just east of the Market (accessible from Lorain Avenue or via 24th Street from Bridge Avenue.) You’ll be able to select from items on the café’s Sunday Brunch menu at your own expense.

By the time we’re fortified for our expedition, the actual historic West Side Market will have opened for the day. We’ll give you approximately an hour and three-quarters to explore their 100-plus vendors whose wares cover the mundane to the exotic for the palate. (Preprinting the coded vendor map is recommended.) However, don’t let your taste buds be the only sense stimulated! In 2008, the Market building was designated one of the “10 Great Public Places in America” by the American Planning Commission. So, view everything from the iconic clock tower to the tiled vaulted ceiling.

heinensrotundaAround 11:30 a.m., we’ll assemble in the parking lot for a short trek downtown to the 740 Euclid deck’s validated parking.heinenbalconies

Our objective? The corner of West 9th and Euclid, the former Cleveland Trust headquarter building, adaptively reused into their Downtown Store by Cleveland-area grocer Heinen’s.

Again, there’s as much stimulation for the eye as the “foodie”-taste buds as we peruse the wrought-iron balconies, the murals, the rotunda. Did I mention the prepared foods and the coffee and wine bars?
